People are saying great things about VIA-based ultra mobile devices!
Combining the ultra-efficient VIA C7-M ULV processor with the compact VIA VX700 chipset has allowed ultra mobile device manufacturers to deliver on their promise of longer battery-life for their mobile devices. The latest generation has seen remarkable advancement: operating at lower temperatures, for longer periods of time, and with a broader range of add-ons. Here's what a few publications have to say:
This time they're doing it up right and sticking HSDPA into their UMPC. The new "Q1b" also packs that new VIA processor from the Q1b, which extends the battery to a purported five hours. The Q1 really does take on a whole new level of hotness with a respectable battery life and 3G internet access, and supposedly the Q1b will include "several additional interfaces" as well.

The Q1b with a VIA processor and this model adds another flavor to the Samsung UMPC lineup. The Sony UX180P has EDGE connectivity with Cingular and now this model looks to up that ante a bit more. Reportedly the Samsung Q1b will also use the VIA processor and see battery life up to five hours.

The Q1b, a successor to the Q1, will extend battery life to five hours and connect to cellular networks based on HSDPA (high speed downlink packet access), Gee Sung Choi, president and chief executive of Samsung Digital Media Business, said today at the IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin. The device, to be available in the fourth quarter, will also be equipped with a processor from VIA instead of Intel, which supplied technology for the first model, a company spokesman said. The spokesman declined to specify the reasons for replacing Intel, pointing only to a need to extend battery life.
